This is such a cute and inspiring movie! I sent this to my 10 year old niece for her birthday. This a GREAT, wholesome family movie with a sweet story. The cast is great--love Ashley Judd and Harry Connick, Jr.--and the movie is well done. The child actors do a fantastic job as well. I love that it is based on a true story, where a group of people got together to help a hurt dolphin. Once the dolphin recovers and is fitted for a custom made prosthetic tail fin, the dolphin inspires many people--especially children with disabilities. The dolphin also helps bring people together and ultimately saves the facility that had originally saved her life. I highly recommend this as a gift for a young person or to add to your own movie collection. It's a feel good story with a happy ending.
This movie can be watched over and over again if your children enjoy a thoughtful movie that focuses on friendships, finding a passion in life, and overcoming adversity. The movie is rated PG and there are other places on the internet to get a list of why it is PG but in general the images of animal injury/disability is the main reason. Villains: One of the best parts of the movie is there is an absence of mean people that either scare children or are ridiculously overacting and repulsive for adults to watch. I will refrain from a spoiler but it is physical and economic adversity that is the real 'villain' in the movie. Kindness: Believe it or not, this movie has all sorts of people being kind to one another. No snooty kids or adults Friendship: great friendships that will carry over to the sequel.....
This is the most fluffy goody-2 shoes production I have ever seen. I could barely finish it, especially with the obvious predictability of outcome. No way they would ever go through all that to save one dolphin. Even if they did, it was a one time event. This is pure fantasy with unbelievable, miraculous outcomes....This just isn't a depiction of 'Real Life' in any way, shape, or form!
Winter the Dolphin is beached and separated from her family, yet destiny brings her to Sawyer, a young introverted lad. He soothingly bonds with Winter while freeing her from the ropes of the crab trap. We learn that Sawyer was abandoned by his father and his cousin Kyle is the male figure in his life. Kyle is deployed overseas in the service of our country, and Sawyer fills the void by immersing his time at the Clearwater Marine Hospital in the care of Winter, whose injuries cause her tail to require amputation.
Although Sawyer ditches summer school, his thoughtful mother, Lorraine, supports his mission to nurture Winter and expresses her plea of understanding to his teacher, Mr. Doyle. For the first time in his young life, her son has a real passion for something special that gives him fulfillment which brings him out of his awkward shell.
Enter the challenges of life. Kyle is badly injured and requires a brace to walk. He is despondent and refused to interact with family in his physical recovery. Sawyer, encourages him and invites him to meet Winter. Now the brilliant Dr. McCarthy, a prosthetic specialist is engaged to consider creating an artificial tail for Winter. Morgan Freeman shines in this role and pioneers a device which takes three attempts to "gel".
This story revolves around the bonds of family and how we all have the ability encourage and grow with an open heart. A pivotal moment comes when Kyle visits the Clearwater facility and meets Winter for the first time. As if by instinct, she greets him and shows him her injury and the will to persevere and foster hope.
This is a film about encouragement and the meaning of universal family. We all have a role to play in improving the circumstances of those around us, and giving of ourselves is the highest form of love. Dolphin Tale is a classic for all ages and a wonderful staple to place in your library of movies.
This review is for the Blu-ray + UltraViolet Digital Copy version of Dolphin Tale.
THE FILM Fantastic story-line (based on the story of a real dolphin, of course) that touches many deep and important themes such as socialization, loss of loved ones, overcoming disabilities, and friendship. A young boy helps rescue a dolphin from the beach, but its damaged tail-fin must be amputated. They develop a bond, and he develops a bond of friendship with the daughter of the animal hospital's manager. There are many moments of eager anticipation, bitter disappointment, and teary-eyed joy. **SPOILER**There are about three almost-romantic relationships that are barely hinted at, but the friendships and family relationships are fulfilling on their own.**/SPOILER** There is nothing I noticed that would be inappropriate for children.
THE PACKAGE For me, the 4-disc package was not worth the extra $10. This one-disc version includes a few nice bonus features, and the ability to get an 'UltraViolet' version of the movie. As far as I can tell, you have to register online to two different services, and then you can access your movie using a smart phone/tablet (ONLY unrooted devices) via the Flixster app, stream it on the web, or download it (using a system completely different and incompatible with Warner Bros' other digital movie download software). This is admittedly better than the old WB Digital Copy system, but it really stinks that the movies WB delivered that way are stuck, and there is no way I know of to access the 'UltraViolet' versions of those films. Sorry, I digress.
Overall, it is a great clean, entertaining, and heartwarming film that will add luster to any collection.
Great story if we could have heard it better. Back ground music etc just fine, but if you want to hear the dialog, you need to keep adjusting the volume up and done. Same on both our TVs so it wasn't a TV issue. Plus volume for all others things just fine.Have no idea how to contact Amazon as there is no return or for videos.

A friend from Florida wrote to say that they had visited a Dolphin without a tail locally, and that a film had been made of the rescue, and making and fitting of an artificial tail. I have another friend who loves dolphins and has travelled to Spain, I think, to swim with some of them.
Well, I had to get this dvd! And I am delighted with it. There is no plot, no romance, no violence; just the true story of a dolphin who was rescued by a little boy and their love for each other. Yes, he also arranged for a prosthetics expert to be introduced to the Rescue Centre, and the successful end result can be imagined.
This is a sweet little true story about love and rescue, and it's hard to watch it without shedding a tear. Wonderful.

After visiting the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and swimming with Winter back in May 2008 we were looking forward to the film and it didn't disappoint. The scenes in the Aquarium show it as it really is - not a 'disney' aquarium but a hands on working rescue centre. The staff we met were amazing and made our whole 'swim with Winter' experience truly unforgetable. Winter herself has a huge personality and, according to the staff, can be quite naughty at times. I would never have thought that I would kiss a dolphin but I did! The film is excellent and I cannot rcommend it highly enough - in fact watch the film, book yourself a holiday to Clearwater and have the whole Winter experience yourself - priceless.

Dolphin Tale [DVD
]
This is a most beautiful film and what makes it all the more interesting is that i visited Florida in January 2011 for my daughters wedding and we visited Clearwater and actually saw Winter she was just a metre away from us and to see the film that was filmed in the same tank that we saw Winter in was wonderful. I have been to see the film with my daughter here in Leeds and it was super the actors were great but the most beautiful music made us want to cry. It's a delightful film especially for children also the bigger children. I urge everyone to see this film you certainly won't be disappointed. I've now bought the DVD so that i can see it all over again.
