8-5-17 2nd viewing after a long time. Couldn't remember most of it, and especially the knot tying. Made for solid entertainment, but glad I only rented. By the time I'm again in this schmaltz?-I-love-it-pour-it-on-me mood, it'll be streaming for "free" at Netflix.
A family film, and you won't be bothered thereby by this material's staying within moral boundaries the Pilgrims would be happy to sponsor. But there's tons of laughs that might be tried-and-true, but they're nicely timed, don't overstay their welcome, and freshened a goodly lotta. If you're not a person of faith in these kinds of doings, hey, put all that aside, this is Bible-lite stuff and the audience is not required to resonate with the very few parts that are, well, scripturally necessitated. This is not Bruce Almighty or Absolutely Anything; it stands by itself -- an equal in its own way. 60 year parts of me were as comfy as could be with most of this, but the film's humor definitely has a reach beyond one's inner child.
