A ten year old inherits the Minnesota Twins baseball team and as in movie land is allowed to be the General Manager who also coaches the team. The players reject him at first but come togther when they The young coach makes them remember what the game really means to them and the fans. Appearances by Ken Griffey Jr. and many other professional players. A short but brillaint apperance by Jason Robards.
Great film for all ages. Very good acting, even from kids which is hard to find. Very good plot and characters. It was very good that they were on actual major league sites and used actual players in many scenes. Most baseball movies have a bunch of baseball fan want-to-bez, but this film did not. At times it was very realistic. It truly shows how adults have messed us the game. The film was able to use great statistics and actual baseball information to assist audience members that are not familiar with the game. Two issues stopped me from rating it with 5 stars. 1: the sound was not very good. At times I could not understand the main character and the music was much louder than the rest of the film. I had to keep adjusting the volume. 2: It did show provocative images that in my opinion were not appropriate for kids. They could have shown less and people would have gotten the idea. Now I would not be allowed to show this to my students in elementary school. Not good! But over-all it is an excellent family film and worth the purchase price.
This movie is so cute! It's perfect for my 6-year-old baseball fanatic. The only small part in the movie that's even slightly questionable is the mention of the main character, just a boy, rents Nurses in Jersey (adult movie) multiple times while staying over night in a hotel with the team. I'm pretty positive it went right over my son's head (except that he'll be watching the movie multiple times, and he's bright enough to put it together eventually--not a fan of that reference/influence). Again, very minor--this is really a terrific movie!
Little Big League - What can I say ... I love it! I saw the movie a few years ago, but forgotten the title. So I went recently to a local video store in hopes of finding it. After a massive search throughout their entire store, I asked a clerk for assistance. They tried to help me with the questionable title, and still was unable to locate a video.
This was a good baseball and family movies about a kid who inherits the Minnesota Twins from his grandfather and becomes their manager too, to the players' chagrin. Real life baseball players appear in it. Any baseball fan will like this movie-watch it with your kids! I loved the extras in the DVD, especially Randy Johnson talking with Timothy Busby on hitting against him. It was good quality to it too.

Not that my opinion matters so much. My athletic 8 year old son enjoys it very much. I think it's some kind of rite of passage for boys, because a lot of the men I know remember this movie fondly. Sandlot 5 stars, this movie 4 stars. There are some pretty tedious parts, and I always get bored quick of the downward-spiral part of movies before the protagonist realizes the true meaning of Christmas or baseball or what have you- it goes on too long in this movie for me.

There is something about movies made in the 90's. Wholesome and family-oriented. Simple and straight-forward and with a lot of heart. Sure, it's a mad premise and some lines are milky, especially from Billy's granddad but it's a great sports film with wonderful energy.
I remember this film being quite a rare thing for an Irish TV screen when I was a child. We borrowed the VHS tape a number of times. I looked for it years later and thankfully found it on DVD in great condition.
It's a very enjoyable film and I truly loved the rapport between the players - many of whom are actors with previous athletic careers. Scott Patterson, Timothy Busfield and John Ashton are particularly on their game here and give great heart to the somewhat far-fetched storyline! Kevin Dunn is always on point. Not a role or film he hasn't helped to elevate just by being in it.
90's films excel in great values and life lessons for young and old. I recall being a child and feeling disappointed in young Billy's behaviour towards the middle of the film. I remembered that to this day so this film definitely worked on a different level for kids, regardless of what adults may believe.
Definitely a golden oldie to visit for either sentimental reasons or if you're a parent looking outside the box for something very different.
