A fun treasure hunt based upon history

When Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) was a kid, his grandfather John Adams Gates (Christopher Plummer) told him a story of a secret treasure buried somewhere in the United States. This story always enthralled him. When he was an adult he go to fulfill his dreams and look for it, which is the basis of the plot of National Treasure.

What was enjoyable about the movie was that included all of these historical myths and weaved them together into the story. For instance, Ben’s grandfather talked about the treasure being connected to the Knights Templars, the Free Masons and the images on the dollar bill.

Cage was great in this role. There wasn’t any crazy Cage as he’s famous for, but he had the right attitude and showed the obsession the character had.

Overall, it was a really fun treasure hunt.

A fantastic movie for all ages. One really gets to enjoy the thrill of the chase as one clue leads to other clues that absolutely defines the genius of the founding fathers of the United States of America. One thing that stands out is Nick Cages's character's total respect for the Declaration of the United States and the great men who had the vision and genius to come together to make the greatest country in the world. The movie is also an abridged history lesson for those so inclined. There is a fantastic plot, great acting, and the thrill of the chase, and the final scene where they find the treasure. Of course, the government must get their man, and they do in the end.
A great movie for a rainy Saturday!

Loved this movie. It's a fun rip roaring ride, and is great for all ages. Say what you want about Nick Cage (he's earned it), but he does a good job of anchoring this film. Great cast, including supporting actors, and well directed; this is one of my favorite Disney movies.

This is one of my favorite movies and I've watched it over and over. The team of Cage, Bruckheimer and Jon Turteltaub can't be beaten for creating movies with great stories, lots of action, and some magical elements. Nicholas Cage plays the role of the great-grandson in a family that has been obsessed with finding the lost Templar Treasure. The action takes place in many recognizable public places such as the Library of Congress, several Washington memorials, and some historic sites in Boston. I especially like the wonderful humor mixed in with the action. The final scenes are fantastic and fun.

An Adventure Film That Strives To Be Just a Bit More...

...and it succeeded. In fact, it became more than an action adventure film with a few intriguing facts about American history peppered into it. It is a film worth watching over and over again. Nicholas Cage, Justin Bartha, and Diane Kruger make a great trio of leads and Ms. Kruger especially does a great job playing the straight woman alongside the two treasure hunters. Jon Voight was great as the father who had given up his son's dream a long time ago and Harvey Keitel makes a great federal agent. Sean Bean and his motly crew did well at portraying their motives to be purelly greed, making this often overused plot device fit snugly into the plot. And the action was great and, most importantly, not overdone. I say "come for the plot, stay for the great piece of film-making". Enjoy.

Fun, action packed Disney movie!

Nicholas Cage is amazing as Ben Gates, a historian who believes that the Declaration of Independence has a treasure map on the back. And while the plot is far fetched it's entertaining! Justin Bartha plays side kick Riley Poole, probably the funniest character in the whole movie! Diane Kruger plays a historian trying to protect the Declaration, and a love interest for Cage. The movie is fast paced, action packed, and entertaining. The history facts aren't always accurate, but that's okay because the movie is so entertaining, and makes history interesting. The two disc collectors edition is nice because it has a couple historical documents, as well as a fun treasure hunt game.

The movie is surprisingly clean, no language, one dead body, and no sexual innuendo. Definitely a fun movie for the whole family. And while I wouldn't recommend watching it with toddlers, only because they probably wouldn't find it entertaining, I would recommend watching it with kids of all ages!

I'm not a great fan of Nicholas Cage, but added this movie to my small collection because it's fun. Really fun -- sort of like a trip to Disneyland. There are interesting plot twists as the mystery unfolds. It's worth watching once, and then again in about 3-4 years, and perhaps once again. Considering that one viewing is not enough, purchasing the movie is less costly than renting it.

Comparing the Blu-ray against the DVD the image is blurry on the DVD, the Blu-ray is a sharp and clear image with a greater and bigger amount of colours and the edges of the image is clearer and the actors have a natural skin tone and the shadows are more defined with deeper blacks and greys.
This is a great piece of family entertainment and a worthy addition to a Blu-Ray library with its superb transfer which delivers a sharp image along with an excellent soundtrack which has enough punch and kick for any surround sound set-up.

An interesting film to waste a couple of hours. I'd say that this disney/brukhiemer film is better than the latter pirates films. I'm not up on American history so, although I've heard the history aspects of the film are questionable. I can't say yey or ney to that aspect of it. I can just say that it was a reasonably fun film that kept my intrest. The blu ray has a number of special features including Director & co-star Audio Commentary which was ok. They kept ripping off each other & I din't get if it were a jokes or real. But The film is a fine caper film, with decent action scences 4/5

Nicholas Cage is his usual laid back cool, and the supporting characters are nicely played (and just occassionally more than just someone to explain the latest plot point to). Yes, the baddies are British (what's with those accents?) and non-US viewers may not feel quite as engaged with the subject matter as someone from the Colonies, but switch off your brain and go with the flow...
