I enjoyed the story of this movie, which I had gotten for the grandkids. Especially the talented boy who took the bullied boy under his wing. In the good ways, it was a chance to remember what it was like to be a part of the neighborhood after-school "gang", but it what ruined by children using foul language. Anybody who grew up in an era where there were still baseball games like these played between neighborhood children, instead of the highly driven kids sports of today; and when it was an era when children were actually safe to play away from their yards in vacant lots, knows children didn't use foul language as portrayed in this movie and the way they do today. Mouths were washed out with soap, and it just wasn't done. I wondered if this film was based on a true story. It's a shame about the language because I won't be sharing what would otherwise be a fun and great kids' story with the grandkids or anybody else's kids.
The Sandlot is easily one of the top three movies of my childhood along with The Goonies and The Princess Bride. Now that I'm a parent myself, I have passed my love of The Sandlot on to my own children. Honestly, it works as well today as it did back in 1993 when it was first released. In a world with on demand movies via Prime and Netflix with literally thousands of movies and shows to choose from at any give moment, our family finds itself go back to The Sandlot over and over again.
I made my wife watch this even though she doesn't like baseball because she needed to understand why I often say "You're killing me Smalls!" Now she understands. Also she loved the movie. And she learned who The Great Bambino is. So rent this movie and educate your friends and family in an enjoyable way.
My son has been playing baseball since he was 4 and he loves it. We are slowly showing him all of the baseball movies that we love. He loves The Sandlot. We first let him see it at age 6, and that is a good age for it. We bought this DVD for our collection, but my son was watching the TV version first. There is one curse word toward the end that I did not want my son to pick up on, knowing he would latch onto it and repeat it, so the edited TV version was perfect to help avoid that. This is a fun baseball movie to add to the collection.
Come on! If you don't love this movie, we can't be friends... It's a huge hit of welcomed nostalgia every time I watch it. My wife & son watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago & they've both asked to watch it again already. This may not be impactful for you, but it is huge for me, as neither of them are movie watchers.

One of the best kid's movie of all time. It is hilarious for kids and adults, and has some pretty good life lessons in it as well. This is also one of the most quotable movies of all time. I guarantee that you'll be using lines from it for the rest of your life.

We bought the Blue Ray version after years of watching the old-fashioned DVD on a small television, and we never tire of this movie! It was so much fun to see it in HD on a much bigger screen! We'll probably wear this one out because it is one of our favorite movies.
There is a scene where Squints pretends to drown, a scheme he'd "been planning for years", in order to get the lifeguard he has a crush on to put her lips over his. He then forces her to kiss him. She is shamed, embarrassed and taken advantage of while trying to preform her duties as a life guard. Meanwhile other swimmers are now left unsupervised. His friends comment on how wrong this was, but they also glorify him for being so "cool" and having the "guts to pull it off". It was not fun explaining rape culture to my 8 year old after watching this movie. I also had to explain why saying "you play like a girl" was an insult and how wrong that actually is and that girls are quite capable of doing many things very well and just as good as boys. After watching this movie I wished I hadn't shown it to my kids.
4.0 out of 5 starsA kids' film with all the joy, innocence and good humour of a time long past.

As a pensioner, you may find it hard to believe that I could enjoy a film of this type and style.
This is the story of a new boy to the neighbourhood who initially has problems settling in but is soon taken under the wing of a gifted baseball player and his pals. They play baseball for the shear joy of the game, rarely keeping score. Losing their ball in scrap yard defended by a 'monster' of a dog is only part of the story. We watch the kids going through some of the early stage sof adolescence and you might just recognise some of the problems they faced having been a child once yourself.
