I unwittingly rented this... and regretted it within minutes, as the bogus CGI inserts began to annoyingly intrude. These ought be little more than silly vanity edits by an insecure director who doesn't believe audiences can think for themselves and is obsessed with consistency; but much worse, they interfere with the both the pacing and texture of the film, robbing it of its magic.
What made the first Star Wars special was the quickness of the story, the fast-paced editing that didn't need a lot of tiresome little asides. This version plods along, drearily stopping for cameos of characters to come or pointlessly dallying with CGI creatures that are nothing more than window-dressing. What a mindless bore.
Don't waste your time with this dreck. Buy the original, as that's the only way you'll see it now.
