This movie is about a space monkey that becomes friends with Drew Barrymore’s older brother. I love it but my kids didn’t really get it. My kids are pretty dumb in all honesty. One of them still thinks the Easter bunny is real and she’s in high school. My youngest likes to eat dirt. The middle kid is ok but he has a weird blinking problem and keeps asking for a saw for his birthday and Christmas. I’m like, why a saw? He just says he can’t tell me and winks. He also has a box of dried up sharpies that he thinks will “grow more ink” if he sings to them every night. I should probably talk to someone about all of this.
For me ET is a beloved movie from my childhood and one of only a handful of movies that makes me cry every single time. I'll never forget going to see ET in the summer of 1982. I would have been about 6 at the time. My mom told me nothing more than it "was about a spaceman". I was horrified when ET was lying in the gulch, white as a sheet. I bawled when ET died. And it was one of the greatest thrills of my movie going life when they flew with the moon in the background. What an amazing movie!
So I had high hopes when this great movie was released in 4K. And I have to say I am somewhat disappointed. The extras are everything you would want them to be. Documentaries, deleted scenes, original trailer. The daytime scenes have not looked this good since the 80's. The Halloween shots at sunset look stunning. But I do have a complaint to register. I think that the night time scenes do not look good at all on the 4K version. I have noticed a disturbing trend on 4k releases where they tend to up the contrast and saturation to ludicrous levels and compensate by dropping the brightness. The result is mixed... in some scenes this results in eye-popping color and detail. But in poorly lit scenes it produces distorted, over saturated colors and distracting noise. In the opening chase through the woods at night I find the picture to be very dark and detail I remember from previous versions is lost. Beams of light from the spaceship and headlights are so noisy here that I was thinking only about how bad the noise looked and not enjoying the movie. I think I actually prefer the 1080P version of ET.
After buying this I found out the digital code doesn't work in the USA. It's only compatible in the United kingdom or Ireland. The seller confirmed this and originally didn't find it to be an issue. The DVD has region limitations on certain DVD players in the USA per the description. So just beware you may ONLY be getting the 4K disc.

I haven't watched this movie in forever. Stands the test of time and this 4K UHD version looks beautiful. I am new to 4K with a new LG OLED TV and 4K blu-ray player. I didn't know what to expect with an old (1982) movie like this. All I can say is I was thoroughly impressed with how good this looks in 4K with HDR. The sound was even much better than I would expect from an early eighties movie. Although I have an ATMOS speaker setup (5.1.4) I really don't remember being amazed by the DTS:X features other than the overall good surround sound and frequency extension.

Yes, of all movies that were ever made, this one is my favorite. I don't know what to say except that I have probably watched this movie more than 3,899,000 times in my life since I was six, and I will watch this movie another 4,000,00 times until I am old and in a nursing home somewhere. For me, it's a movie that is the complete package. It tells a wonderful story of love and friendship between young Elliott and E.T. that pulls at my heartstrings and makes me smile every time I sit down to watch it. Steven Spielberg created a masterpiece with this one. It's a parade of moments throughout the movie that are filled with awe, sadness, fear, humor, and joy. I am a full-grown adult, and yet when I see this movie again, it's like seeing it for the first time. There are plenty of other movies that I adore, but this one endures in my heart. Everyone needs a special friend, like E.T.
If it was only about the quality of the film I would easily give it 5 stars, however Amazon tends to send me busted cases regularly, this one was worse than usual. I really wish they wouldn’t do this because I’m a collector and I like my blu rays in good condition. I give them enough money as I buy multiple blu rays every week. Doesn’t seem right that they would send a loyal customer broken products.

Great film, broken case, and this isn’t a first.

Incredible movie now on 4K definition. Packaging was nice also. One thing about 4K. Don't expect ET to look like a 2017 4K movie. You will be disappointed. However there is great improvement with 4K in the transfer.
This was my favorite movie when I was 4 years old. Now I'm 37 and I do t think I've seen it since. I was excited to show it to my 7 year old. Overall, she liked it. She thought it was scary. She woke up afraid a couple nights. I didn't realize there was bad language and teenagers smoking in it. it didn't show them actually doing it, but it was obvious they were as they were all sitting at a round table with smoke coming up from the middle. We both cried. I still loved it. She said she liked it. Even though she was scared of ET at night, she still wishes she had an ET friend and thinks the movie was good, but not a favorite because it was sad.

Beautiful film in glorious 4K HDR. This classic from the 1980s has never felt so real! Awesome transfer. Oh and it’s the original cut, no dodgy CGI here in this version. The original and the best.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is a 1982 American science fiction film co-produced and directed by Steven Spielberg, and written by Melissa Mathison. It features special effects by Carlo Rambaldi and Dennis Muren and stars Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore and Pat Welsh. It tells the story of Elliott (Thomas), a lonely boy who befriends an extraterrestrial, dubbed "E.T.", who is stranded on Earth. Elliott and his siblings help E.T. return to his home planet while attempting to keep him hidden from their mother and the government.
The concept was based on an imaginary friend Spielberg created after his parents' divorce in 1960. In 1980, Spielberg met Mathison and developed a new story from the stalled sci-fi horror film project Night Skies. It was filmed from September to December 1981 in California on a budget of $10.5 million USD. Unlike most films, it was shot in roughly chronological order, to facilitate convincing emotional performances from the young cast.
I absolutely love this film, with all its heart and emotional storytelling of the young boy Elliot (Henry Thomas) and the ET left on earth and the connection between them as Elliot helps him get home. The whole cast is A-class, it will surely go down as one of Spielberg best films, as the effect it had on me as a small boy watching it when I was five still brings a tear to my eyes. When you have kids of your own sit down with them and show them a truly magical film.

WOW!!! this is a great steelbook, and E.T. deserves nothing less than this wonderful release. When I was a very young boy my brother in law took me and my twin brother to watch E.T. at the cinema and we just both loved it, you could say this was my best film I have seen when I was growing up. The amazing thing about this film is, it never seems to age and feel dated, if anything it just gets better with age. Me and my brother have a debate he says "JAWS" is Steven Spielbergs best film but E.T. just edges it for me.(PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT AND TELL ME WHAT DO YOU THINK?) The Blu-ray and sound is just perfect and the score which was done by john Williams is outstanding.

In common with many older films that have been remastered for Blu ray to 4k there is some grain but not so intrusive as to distract from the overall viewing enjoyment. If you look for it you will see it especially during the early darker scenes. HDR significantly improves the brightness, darkness and colours. No need to review the film itself. It is generally regarded as a masterpiece.
Some of the 4k scenes were not and may have been up rated rather than real 4k. Having said that much of the film was exceptional quality. ET was far more detailed but some of the angles revealed its synthetic composition. Still worth purchasing since the last twenty mins. of the film combines visuals and sound to an exceptionally high standard.
