One of my favorite things to do is to help clients pack for a trip. There’s something about making sure they feel as prepared and beautiful as possible during a time that is all about having fun! There’s nothing worse than being somewhere, especially on a trip, and hating your outfit and feeling like you have nothing cute to wear. It happened to me on a trip to NYC once and I vowed to never let it happen again (picture at the end). As someone once said to me, “When you feel confident in what you’re wearing, you can get out of your own way and just be you”- thanks Courtney G.!
Last weekend I went on a trip to LA with my husband, andI thought I’d do the same packing plan for myself that I do for my clients and share it with you. Here are the pictures of my outfits as I planned them, followed by a picture of me wearing them. I am very particular about my travel outfits and this one fit all my requirements- check out my Elaine post here! This was a very funny moment with my husband, because we were both feeling totally awkward as I am posing in the airport and he is taking my picture. You could read the awkwardness all over my face, so I chopped it off -ha!

I love to create day to night looks especially for trips. It saves space in the suitcase and you inevitably end up having 5 minutes to get ready for dinner and this allows for a quick transformation.

The high in LA was 71 degrees, and for a Texas girl, this is cold. I always try to pack a sweater that is versatile and can be worn with multiple looks, because you never know when the weather is going to change. This Tart Collection sweater was perfect- grey and navy go with everything.

I was suppose to wear this during the day too, but it was too cold. Good thing I had my sweater!

My husband and I refer to this NYC trip many years ago as the worst trip EVER. I was in such a bad mood because I felt like I had nothing cute to wear. I couldn’t even have a good time. I’d like to think that if this happened again that I would be mature enough to move on and not let it ruin my time, but I may not be that mature -ha!

Love all of the outfits, but the Joe’s jeans are my fav! And I need your packing help. I am a serious over-packer just so I will have choices! I hate having to plan outfits, so I just always take a HUGE suitcase and decide in the moment what to wear. That’s all good until I get home and I have all these clothes that haven’t been worn, but are so wrinkled from being packed that I either have to iron them or wash them again. Yeah, I need help! 🙂

You look so cute! Love the Joe’s jeans you are wearing! I have a family trip coming up and this helps a ton.

Hi Carly,
I just love your blog!! Some of my favorite purchases this last year have been items you’ve featured… Like the BEST black jeggings from Citizens! Now, I’m getting ready to buy the Racer jeans. They don’t have them in-store at my Nordstrom. Do you know if the color you have is “slash”? It looks great in your pictures but much lighter on the Nordstrom site. Thanks for all the cute style inspiration!

Yes, the color I have is Slash. Hope this helps!
