Growing up, my mom had a house dress she always wore, but I’ll call it a muumuu (a fancier name, no?). Both my sister and I have fond memories of her in this dress. It was blue, green and yellow paisley, it zipped up the front and she always looked so regal when she wore it. I’ve always wanted a muumuu of my own! They just make so much sense- perfect for when you get home and you want to be comfy but don’t want to put your pjs on, or when you get up in the morning and you’re not quite ready to get dressed!
I had been looking for a muumuu for a long time and I knew what I was looking for. These were my requirements: something that was comfortable, non restricting, soft, cool, not see through- so that it could be worn with or without undergarments (I said it was a house dress -ha), and nice enough to be able to answer the door or run an errand! So, needless to say, when I spotted this dress at Anthro I was sold- hook, line and sinker. Well, except for when I looked at the price tag….
But, here’s how I justified it. First, the purchase will not put me in debt, very important. And second, I thought of the cost per wear. I learned this in one of my fashion merchandising classes so it’s legit, right? Cost per wear is the total amount you spend on something divided by the amount of times you’ll wear it. Therefore, if I wear this dress 100x (conservative end), the cost per wear is $2.60. For another example, if I bought a $20 t-shirt and I wear it 2x, the cost per wear is $10. So, you see, I feel like it was a good purchase.
The muumuu makes it’s debut in the family photos.

It’s stunning and I have no less than TWO house dresses and a same-kind-of-idea robe for winter. I love them.
However, are you planning to dry clean the silk every time? That seems inconvenient for frequent wearing. Mine are linen and I don’t even iron them 🙂

I do the cost per wear thing too! Now I feel so fancy and official that they teach that in fashion school! Maybe they’ll have me come in and guest-teach some classes, no?
