I have a confession to make… Ever since Instagram became a thing, I’ve stopped publishing my “Camera Roll” posts, and I’ve stopped posting my “Camera Roll moments” to Instagram. And do you know why? It’s because I started comparing my Instagram feed to other, more popular, Instagram feeds. You see, I’m not that great at taking pictures, and my life is VERY IMPERFECT. I felt I just couldn’t compete. And that’s true, I can’t compete, but I CAN stay true to myself. So I’m staying in my lane, I’m going to run my own race, and I’m going to start claiming a perfectly imperfect Instagram feed.
How does one end up taking a picture of themselves while pretending to look out the window? Ha! My friend and I were at our son’s t-ball practice, and we were admiring our other friend’s clear sunglasses (here). Well, when I went to purchase her’s online, I remembered I had also been wanting sunglasses with blue mirrored lenses. So I went on the search to find clear sunglasses with blue mirrored lenses. Well, I found them! And, of course, I had to show them to my friend from t-ball, so viola! That’s how you get a random picture of me pretending to look out the window. I love my new sunnies. Lauren, this pic is for you. I hope you think it is as hilarious as I do.
This is just a little trick I wanted to share. Every time I get a pedicure, at least one or two of my toes get damaged. I could go back, but I don’t have the patience. So I’ve started to embrace it and make the best of it. Result: Colorblocked toes. I’ve done a racing stripe before, too. Just a tip in case this ever happens to you!
I purchased these swimsuits at Target! I love them both. The one piece offers great support for a large chest.
The following is not fashion related -ha!
See what I’m saying? Not a good photographer here. I should have put a strawberry on top, drizzled some syrup, and added some flowers. That would have made for a great picture. Oh well. That doesn’t take away from the fact that this frozen french toast from Trader Joe’s is seriously amazing. A friend recommended it to me, and I’m recommending it to you guys. It taste exactly as if I made it that morning. I love having something to add to my usual breakfast offerings, and my son loves it! They also have the least expensive orchids around, and their chicken pesto wrap is tdf.
I was sitting at my desk, trying to work, when this one crawled into my lap. I love looking really close at my kid’s faces. I want to memorize exactly how they look, so I won’t forget all the little things that are so cute and special about them at that age…the bump on his lip, his baby teeth, his whispy eyebrows. … Y’all know what I’m talking about. Anyway, after capturing this, I’m starting a new tradition. Every so often, I’m going to take a really close up pictures of my boys. This way I won’t forget- hopefully…

Hi Carly! I saw your post earlier when you were trying to decide about sunglasses, and you featured your mirrored Oakleys. I flipped out when I saw that you were considering my husband’s sunglasses from middle school. Two years ago I found his pair in a box but the arm was broken, and I have been trying to bond that arm back on ever since. They were super cute. But destroyed in the hands of a 12-year-old who could not envision that his wife might want those someday. I now know how to get my own pair. (And they will not have heavy scratches ground into the plastic, either, ha!)
On another note: I absolutely love your idea up-close photography of our children. My little girls’ faces have changed so much. Even their little scars and freckles have changed. I am going to take that up. It’s brilliant.
Thank you for all the inspiration!

Thank you for posting non-professional photos! I read your blogs for ideas and your writing! I’m not a photo snob. If you are in focus and in the frame, who am I to criticize? Trader Joe’s has so many yummy things!
Carly Lee says
Ha! I love it, you stay a non-photo snob, and I’ll keep posting “imperfect” pictures.
