Getting a good picture of your kiddos can be practically impossible. Over the years I’ve learned a trick or two. I used all sorts of tricks to get good picture for this post. Since it’s Christmas card picture time I thought I would share. A few of my favorites tricks are: allowing them to stand on furniture that is usually off limits (as seen in the picture above -ha!), asking them to put their hands in their pockets (it’s something about the challenge and it gets them to move), getting them to jump (I learned that from Traci Ling), or using all sorts of potty words to get them to laugh (I learned that from Christi at Candid Chic)! Well, for this post no trick was left unused!
Hoodie- North Face, Shirt- Mini Boden, Corduroys- Ralph Lauren, Boots- Ugg
You see every year about this time, I wake up and realize it’s cold outside, and my boys have nothing to wear. And about that same time I realize that we have all sorts of holiday festivities (Thanksgiving dinner, School performances, Christmas card pictures, Christmas Eve Service, etc.) to attend and no “dressy clothes” to wear.
Shirt- Ralph Lauren, Corduroys- Ralph Lauren, Boots- Ugg
Well, two things happened this year that have me ahead of the game. The boys were the ring bearers in my sister-in-law’s wedding (more on that later), and Nordstrom asked me to check out their kids’ wear section. It was perfect timing, because I had already been clicking around the Nordstrom site trying to find outfits for the wedding. What I love to do is order a whole bunch of options, and have them sent to the house. This way I can try all of it on them, in the comfort of my home, and ship back (with the provided return label) what doesn’t fit! EASY! Taking kiddos to the store to go shopping? HARD! No, thank you. Lucky for you guys, I’ve done all the ordering and trying on! I’m only posting about the “keepers”!
This is what they wore to the rehearsal dinner. My boys are extremely hard on their pants. Typically after one wear, there will be a hole in at least one of the knees. So I opted for corduroy (more durable). Out of all the pants I ordered, these fit the best! They were not too skinny or too full through the leg, they were just right. Plus, they have an adjustable waistband, which in my mind is essential. They make them for big boys, too!
Shirt- Ralph Lauren, Corduroys- Ralph Lauren, Boots- Ugg
It’s practically impossible to get my boys to wear any kind of dress shoe. These are perfect, because they have a zipper one side to get them on and off more easily. They also have cushy, soft fur on the inside sole! When my son saw the fur he actually wanted to put the shoe on for fun! Wait, what? That has never happened. Plus, I liked that these boots felt “big boy” but not too grown up. The age appropriate chukka boot -ha
Shirt- Mini Boden, Corduroys- Ralph Lauren, Oxfords- Tucker and Tate, Watch- Lego
For my younger son, I couldn’t help but buy him some oxfords. They are just so classic and look so cute on boys. Plus, he thought they were comfy! Now you see why their pants get holes in the knees -ha!Thermals- Peek, Red and blue shirt- Ralph Lauren, Navy and green shirt- Mini Boden, Corduroy- Ralph Lauren, Sneakers- Converse, Boots- Uggs, Hoodie- North Face
Here are the other “keepers” from my order. I’m telling you, I’m going to be well prepared this season, and now so are you -ha! My boys don’t like wearing sweaters that go over their heads, so this year I got smart. As an alternative, I opted for a zip up hoodie. I also decided to opt for a thermal to wear under a nice shirt. No more fighting over pullover sweaters! Yay for me! I also tried to purchase items that would all “go” together. For this reason, I stuck to blues, greys, browns and reds.
Pants- Tucker and Tate, Shirt- Peek (on SALE), Thermals- Peek
I also like thermals to wear under the bajillion t-shirts we already own. It’s an easy way to save a few bucks. I purchased these comfy pants for them to wear to school. They are lined in cotton, they have an elastic waistband, and they have deep pockets. What’s not to like?!? Plus, they received great reviews online!
I hope this post will be helpful for those of you who have little boys in your life. It can be sooooo hard to find cute boy clothes! You can trust that I only posted the” keepers”! And for those of you who don’t have boys in your life, hopefully you can take away a trick or two to use while trying to get a great picture of the little people in your life.

Genius! I am going to do the order trick. As a bonus I won’t have to deal with the distraction of clothes in the store that we don’t need or doesn’t meet the purpose I am shopping for.

Yes! I’m so glad you found the ordering trick helpful! Thanks for your comment, Karen.

Handsome boys and cute, classic clothes. However, kind of pricey in my opinion.
