If someone told me last season that the oversized shirt trend would be big for fall and that I was going to love it and wear it like crazy, I would have told them absolutely not! How could an oversized shirt be cute?!?! In fact, when I tried this shirt on, I had to have my friend come in the dressing room and approve it. I was just so caught up in the comfort that I wanted it right then and there, even it it didn’t look cute! Well, thankfully she approved, and I purchased it. Since then, I’ve been giving this style of shirt a lot of thought. Particularly, why it works and how it can be styled and worn in my wardrobe.
When buying an oversized shirt, I have a few tips. You see how this shirt dips down in the front and goes up on the sides? This allows the horizontal line to be on the slimmer part of the legs without adding unwanted bulk to the sides! Plus, the v-neck and the line of buttons down the center elongate your silhouette.
It’s so important for an oversized shirt to fit well at the shoulders and chest. This allows for a more tailored, flattering silhouette. Make sure the shoulder seams line up right at the end of your shoulder and that it is fitted through the chest (get the smallest size possible!!). In this shirt, the back placket is nice, because it allows the shirt to be fitted at the top and the bottom to skim the body.
When styling an oversized shirt, I like to have flexibility. I like a shirt that I can dress down with sneakers, or…
…dress up with a sloppy tuck and a leather jacket. One of my favorite style tricks is to take something extremely casual (like an oversized shirt) and pair it with something dressy (like heels). It feels like my kind of style. I like to get dressy, but I also like to be comfy.
And when I sloppy tuck, I sloppy tuck. I let the side slits show and don’t worry about it. It’s supposed to be sloppy and effortless, right?
Now I do realize the jacket over the shoulder is not everyone’s style (and that’s ok), but it felt right with this outfit. I like the flowy nature of this shirt, and I didn’t want to stuff it under my jacket. However, I liked the way the jacket looked with my outfit, and a jacket comes in handy in the cold AC. Oh and by the way, I will stuff that shirt under that jacket when I get cold- ha!

I typically wear a size 8.5, and I went down half a size to an 8. The 8 fit perfect. I hope this helps. I know, the top is like heaven on the skin! Thank you for your comment.
