Does this dress look familiar?

Now does it look familiar? It’s the same David Peck dress I wore in a post late last year, turned backwards! But I take no credit of my own. A friend, Julie Rhodes, told me she wore this very same dress backwards. Genius! Yes ma’am, I’ll be copying that! I love the practicality of being able to wear a black tie dress more than once! (Side note: Just this past week, a client and I were getting her ready for a black tie event, and she accidentally put the dress on backwards! Well, it was a happy happenstance because that’s how we liked it best.) Maybe you can do this with one of the black tie dresses hanging in your closet!

Up until the day of the event I didn’t know what I was going to wear! I know that sounds ridiculous, but the dress I ordered didn’t compare to this one, and then with the busyness of life in general, I wasn’t able to look for an alternative. So after chatting with some friends about my “situation”, I decided to take this dress to a one hour alterations place, chop the hem and wear it backwards.

But then my friend had an even better idea. She said, “Carly, how about you call the creator of the dress himself and see what he thinks?”. Well, I was very trepidatious to call the dress designer the day of because, well, it’s embarrassing that I didn’t have my stuff together. I don’t really want to be admitting this fact, but I’m keeping it real. But all of my worry was in vain, because David Peck (the dress designer) was not only super accommodating, but he had an even better idea! He said that we should detach the skirt and turn it around, so that the train was still in the back and there wasn’t a seam down the front. Wow, I’m so glad I called him. I so didn’t think about these details (clearly not a dress designer), and I’m so thankful he’s such a wonderful person and helped me!

So here is my happy ending, but getting here took lots of help: dress fixed the day of (thank you David Peck), highlights and nails done the night before…in one hour (thank you Robert Moore and Millie), hair put up by my sister-in-law (thank you Mallory), earrings purchased 2 hours before the event at Kate Spade. Oh, and not to mention the Spanx for under my dress, the Blingdots to support my earlobes, and the fashion tape to make sure I didn’t flash anyone! But, I also want to thank all of you for helping me get over my own issue of “What I see in the Mirror“. There would be no way I would have worn this dress a couple of years ago, so thank you!
