I’ve had some requests to do a post on workout wear ideas, and I’ve also received requests to share my workout routines. To be honest, I felt a little inadequate to answer this, because I would not consider myself a workout guru by any means.
I pretty much work out wherever and whenever I have time, I have no set routine. I didn’t even have any cute work out clothes. I finally decided that my nike track shorts and the random tank tops I buy here and there could use a break (and really, they need a permanent break:) ), so I went shopping! YAY! So where did I go?!?! Nordstrom, of course! I really like their Zella brand of activewear (good quality at a good price), and they have a great assortment of other brands to choose from.
So, here’s what I found! I was specifically looking for a top to solve a problem for one of my friends. She wanted a top that she could work out in, but take off when hot. Then she wanted to be able to throw it back on if she was meeting someone for coffee or to run an errand. Well, this top has functioned beautifully in just this way. Not to mention, it’s so dang cute.

I didn’t have a matching black workout tank to go with my outfit, so I used one of my Target tank that I wear with my regular clothes. That actually took a lot of brain power for me to figure out -ha! Why is it that I think of my clothes as work out clothes or non work out clothes? They can be both! And don’t even get me started on how much I am in LOVE with my tie dye cotton leggings. I have jumped on the tie dye wagon, hook, line and sinker, and I don’t even care!
So here is my little tidbit on working out: Before kids, my sister and I would take yoga classes together, and I did lots of weight lifting and weight lifting classes at the gym. Since having kids, I find workout videos really convenient. Whenever I get a free 30-60 minutes, I’ll work in a video (my favorites are JM Ripped in Thirty and JM Killer Buns and Thighs). This usually looks something like giving the kids a snack and turning on the TV in the other room. In the beginning, they would come interrupt me a lot, and now they know I’ll tell them after I’m finished. This was especially helpful when my sons were in the toddler stage and I felt totally stressed and frazzled. I would just move furniture, get my mat and do yoga (here) while they napped. This outfit would be a perfect yogi outfit!

Truth be told, I didn’t do yoga on this day. I went on a fast pace walk with my neighbor. It was raining and I had just showered, but she was willing and I had the time, so ain’t no rain or a shower going to get in our way. I guess that’s another thing I do. I don’t let showers get in my way. Yes, I try to plan accordingly, but sometimes you can’t and I just have to work out when I can. If I’m really gross, I’ll throw a shower cap on my sweaty hair and just rinse off in the shower, but sometimes I don’t even do that -ha! In fact, the picture above is that Friday evening (I didn’t shower again) when my husband and I took the kids to Mexican food. It was raining so I threw on my rain boots. I took my hair band off, and I felt just as cute as I would in regular clothes. Well, I guess that’s what happens when you buy hip/cute workout clothes -ha! And hey, no one complained that I smelled!
Wow! For someone who feels completely inadequate on the subject matter, I sure did write a lot. HA!

Love the tie dye leggings! Such a cool shout out to the tie dye trend without being too over the top. I am in my mid-forties so must be careful with trends, but those are great! And I love your motto of “I don’t let showers get in my way.” I am going to adopt immediately! I live in Houston also, and our current weather makes managing the whole shower/exercise process tricky. But I must let it go and not be so uptight! And I love your blog! It’s like Christmas in my inbox every time you post a new one. 🙂
Blessings,
