I recently posted on Sézane, a French brand that is now offered in the US, when I fell in love with everything in their catalog (post here). I loved it so much, I ordered a ton of things!
This is an honest review of what I thought about the items I ordered and Sézane in general. Firstly, all the items shipped free through a promo (now all orders over $200 ship free) and arrived in three days. Also, returns are free, which was easy enough. I just went to their website, signed into my account, and printed the return label.
Criteria:
I’m a stickler for quality, seams, and fit. It’s my fashion merchandising and stylist training. For reference, I’m consistently an XS in most brands and a 0-2 in J. Crew. I found that I am a size 4 in Sézane.
Reviews:
I ordered this top in a 2. You can see my shoulders extend a bit over the shoulder seam, and the sleeves are a little short. It also felt a bit tight. I returned it for the same shirt in black in a size 4. I absolutely love it! It IS see-through, but I kinda like it (my version of living on the edge -ha!). I wore a black bra under it for date night and loved the look. If I wore it to work, I’d probably wear a black or skin colored cami under it. The fabric is a cotton blend, the seams are strong, and overall, it’s good quality.
This top is an XS, and again, it’s too small. As you can see, my shoulders extend beyond the seams, and it’s pulling on the back bow. I returned it for the red color (since I’m kinda crazy over red this season). I love that it’s a thicker cotton so it’s not clingy. Also, I love that the stripes match up with the side seams, which is another sign it’s good quality.
They didn’t have the size 2 in this top, so I got a 4 and it clearly fits better than all the other tops. That’s when I knew I was a size 4 in Sézane. I have to be completely honest, I’m not a fan of paying a lot for polyester, so I returned this shirt out of principle. It’s my issue. There are some really great polyester blends these days, and I should probably get over it. If you don’t care about this type of thing, this top is really quite pretty.
This blouse is 100% silk, and it’s less than the polyester top! Now that’s what I’m talking about! I’m wearing a size 2 in this blouse, and I like the fit. It may be because it’s their “boy shirt.” The shoulder seams hit at the right spot. Also, I appreciate the button placement between the boobs. It helps avoid the unwanted gapping that occurs with a lot of button-ups. The length is nice, too. Plus, a silk blouse is one of “The 10 Essentials For Fall.”
If you follow along on Instagram, you’ve already seen this top! It’s a size 2 and I could probably stand to wear a 4, but I wanted to wear immediately! It was too cute to wait! Plus, it’s 100% cotton, so I knew it would give a little. It’s been the perfect top for the transition from summer to fall. It is see-through, but it’s not as see-through as it looks in the picture. I could definitely wear a camisole underneath, but I haven’t felt the need to so far. Ha!
Summary:
All in all, I think Sézane is a really solid, good quality brand. I think their sizing is a little smaller than what we are used to, which may be because they’re a European brand. I’ve been impressed with how easy it is to shop the website and order, how quickly the shipment arrives, and how easy it is to return items. For me, I’m digging the brand because it has really great basics but also has unique pieces.
Happy shopping!

I agree! I obviously went a little crazy ordering. Ha! I keep finding more and more stuff, too! I’m glad you like them as much as I do!

Those tops are all so pretty and feminine!!! I love your blog, by the way! I think I’ve commented just once before that I ordered the blue Saucony (I think that’s the brand, it was through Madewell) tennis shoes you posted a while back and they are still one of my favorites! You’ve really opened my eyes to different styles and thanks to your red lipstick post (last week I think?) I went down a rabbit hole of lipsticks and ordered Mac’s Ruby Woo and am OBSESSED! I wore it all night with a clean face and PJs after it came in and I still loved it. I appreciate your blog a lot, it’s different than a lot of blogs out there and so refreshing to me! 🙂

Everything you say in your comment makes me so happy! I’ll have to check out Mac’s Ruby Woo! Thanks for making my day!

Love the tops. How do you think it will fit for a tall gal? I wear a 2tall in Jcrew.
Carly Lee says
I’m 5′ 8″, and I found them to be long enough. In fact, I think most of the tops are on the longer side.

I am a sucker for lacey tops! Great review.
Random-loving the YSL lip oils! 😉

I’m so intrigued!

Hello, I love your blog!
Did you need to wear a cami underneath the silk boy shirt? Did it lean more sheer or opaque? It looks like it would be fine without, but sometimes you can’t tell from photos. I’m on the hunt for the perfect white silk shirt that doesn’t need anything underneath.
Thank you!
Carly Lee says
Hi, I am not wearing a cami underneath, and I do not feel like I need to. I don’t think it’s too sheer, but I wouldn’t call it opaque. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the post! I’m looking everywhere online for sezane review. Yours is great!
I’m usually a size 0 in theory. Do you think the 2 in Sezane will fit me ok?
Carly Lee says
Hi, Thank you! Yes, a 2 should fit well.

Thanks for your review. Super helpful. I’m curious if you can comment on where the garments are made, as there’s no info on their website. Also, I’m not sure if their website changed but I don’t see any details as to what material each item is made of. Is that why you returned the polyester shirt, because you didn’t know the fabric composition ahead of time? I live in Canada so unfortunately knowing all the details before ordering is a must! Thanks again for this review – white’s a great colour on you btw.

Hi Jenny, Thank you for your comment! You can find all the information you are looking for by clicking on “details.” It’s below “sizing.” I hope this helps!

I’ve ordered a few things off Sezane and in Europe I am generally a XS or size 6 but Sezane’s products fluctuate a lot. One pair of jeans were way too big for me and another too small in the same size. I also have the first two tops that you reviewed and they have both shrunk. I spend a fair amount on clothes and are really careful with garmet care so this pissed me off a little. Then recently my bf ordered a pair of jeans for my birthday. First they were lost in the post and then when they arrived they were the complete wrong size despite being the same as things I’ve ordered before. They don’t offer exchanges only refunds so I never ordered a second pair as the first were bought during a sale and they refused to honour the discount which I thought was pretty cheeky all things considered. Just thought I would add my five cents worth as I too fell in love with their online store but have been a tad disappointed by the reality of the products.

Thanks for your comment, Elle.

Hi. I recently discovered this brand but am reluctant to order since it’s from out of the country. Was there any unexpected duties or customs you had to pay with the carrier after your order arrived? I brought 300 from a website in Australia and got a fedex bill a few months later charging 75 dollars. Ever since then I’ve been hesitant to order anything from a site outside of the U.S.

I had the same experience with a company in Italy. I have not had to pay for my returns to Sézane. I print off the label and send it off. It’s very easy.

Thank you for this oh-so-helpful review. Most of the brands I shop have websites with reviews from customers which helps inform my decision to purchase or not much of the time. Sezane doesn’t seem to post any customer reviews, which made me a tad nervous to order. That and the mixed reviews of the company that I read on other sites (many commenting on the “condescending” and generally awful customer service and complicated returns process). But then I found your review and it gave me the confidence to give it a go. Your review also helped me determine my size. I’m usually a 4 in most brands but decided to go with a 6 for my Sezane order. Some of the tops were a bit on the generous side (especially around the abdomen/waist area) but overall, I’m 99% happy. I don’t mind tops being a bit bigger, especially if it means that the trade-off is that they don’t pull unattractively across my chest (I am unfortunately substantially bustier than Sezane’s models).
Anywho, thank you kindly for taking the time to review this brand / company! Very, very much appreciated!

Hi Ava,
I’m glad you found my honest review of Sezane helpful! Thank you for taking the time to let me know!

Ordered a silk blouse from Sezane a couple of months ago and have been very pleased with it. I always check out new company before I place an order. I never just take it on face value that a company is trustworthy or the quality is up to a good standard. I guess there will always be someone that has not been happy with their purchase for whatever reason though. Placed another order and currently awaiting delivery.

I really loved Sezanne and wanted to keep shopping there, but a recent experience has me a bit miffed. I purchased a really darling blouse from Sezanne two months ago and have worn and washed it all of two times. I discovered a defect where the collar is stiched to the shirt. The fabric must have been improperly cut and is just shredding and will not stop. To fix it would compromise the shape of the shirt.
I’ve shopped there for myself and gifts many, many times and asked if they would consider an exchange this one time. Instead, they grilled me on what I wash the shirt with, how I wash, what temperature water, what soap, how I dry it, asked for photographs, and then after this what felt like a BAR exam, told my to get it fixed at a tailor and that they could pay the expense (after a tailor has said it cannot be fixed).
I will not be shopping there again. There are better brands that stand by the quality of their product enough to admit something is worth damaging out.
